What to expect from Nintendo Direct

8 things we could see in tomorrow's show

So we know that Nintendo has two Nintendo Direct broadcasts planned. One will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3pm and will focus on Wii U games that are set for release in the spring and summer, but it seems the big one will take place during the E3 games show in June when Nintendo will showcase games that are coming up in autumn and beyond.

So what can we expect from tomorrow's show. Well, perhaps we should begin by telling you what not to expect. Given that it's focusing on spring and summer games we'd be surprised to see anything on Mario Kart Wii U, Nintendo's 3D Mario game or Smash Bros Wii U. The last of those titles is definitely one that falls into the 'and beyond' category.

So here are eight things that we reckon could be in tomorrow's Nintendo Direct. Some we imagine will happen, others might be wishful thinking...

1. Pikmin 3 release date

We already know the Pikmin 3 US release date as it was revealed during the last Nintendo Direct broadcast in America. However, despite Iwata confirming that it would be coming to the UK in the next few months, we're still waiting for an exact release date for Europe. Given that it's out in the US on 4 August, you'd have to think that it's one of the games that will be released this summer.

Right now, this is easily our most eagerly anticipated Wii U game of the near future. Obviously we've got the likes of Mario Kart Wii U, a 3D Mario game and more to look forward to but Pikmin 3 is a game we can hopefully look forward to play soon.

We can't wait to move the new Pikmin around Miyamoto's beautiful new garden.

Dates for Pikmin 3 and W101 would be great. I'm not expecting much else to he honest, knowing that another Direct is planned for just before E3...

Another remake of Cave Story that's similar to the Steam version is supposed to be coming to the EU 3DS eShop soon (it's already out in the US but failed to make it over here due to stability problems). Nicalis has said it's confirmed for us and they're looking for a release date, but that was over a month ago.
I'm interested to find out about Mutant Mudds 2 which is supposed to be coming out next year as well as that Sonic the Hedgehog 3D classics remake. Redigit hasn't said anything specific yet, but there might possibly be a 3DS/Wii U version of Terraria in the works (it was recently ported to XBox 360 and PS3 and a Vita version is coming along). I'd also like to see some more popular indie games on the eShop such as Fez, Stealth Bastard and Thomas Was Alone (all of which have recently come/are coming to new platforms), however I highly doubt the devs would want to spend the time on porting them over to Wii U/3DS with Nintendo's high royalty rates. Sony are doing a lot currently to get indie games on the PS3 and Vita and I think good ol' Ninty should be more encouraging.
SEGA has trademarked a new Sonic title, but it seems it's only for mobiles, even though a year or so ago they suggested that they were making games for consoles including the Wii U.
These are my expectations of what won't be in this Nintendo Direct :l

No matter what, it will be an interesting watch, and since I don't really have much to do tomorrow, I'll be watching.

    reasonable predictions

    My dream list:
    - Pikmin 3 release date (surely a given?)
    - Wind Waker details
    - Mario Kart/3D game details
    - System Update info
    - 3DS Miiverse date
    - Surprise me! (ND always does anyway)

Considering that there will be *some* 3DS stuff too, I'm just hoping on some details as to the games announced last time round as well as the Miiverse integration (hopefully), but of course I'd love to see much more new Wii U stuff. Even not owning one myself, I'd like to see Nintendo begin to make steps towards proving everyone wrong, as they did with 3DS, again!

Nintendo used the last Nintendo Direct to announce that Earthbound will be coming to the Wii U Virtual Console. An exact release date for SNES RPG would be great. Given that it was never released in the UK, many fans would never have had the opportunity to play as Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo and take them on a journey to save the world from the evil Giygas.

    2 questions about earthbound
1.this being by far the biggest gaming anouncement this centery why was earthbound only menchend once in the latest onm (in one of the reviews)
    2. has anyone at onm actuly played earthbound (if not you are in for a great game!)

Predictions are probably spot on. I hope they aren't, and they surprise us with more new stuff. One new game would be OK I guess, but I really am hoping they announce more than the one. I doubt it.

yet again, another article that is made of pure speculation, yet eight pages are required to show us what we are going to find out in less than 24 hours time? one page would have been sufficient thankyou

You could have summed up your comment in a few less words.

OH THANK MIYAMOTO-SAN! You see, I'm starting a manga with my mate in June and August, but not until mid-June due to his exams. And I don't start college (again, but that's another story that may or may not find itself into an article) until September, so as you can guess, I've been quite bored. THIS will help. What am I hoping for? Ummm, definitely some info on Yoshi's Yarn, as I want that for Christmas. And maybe a creation sim of some sorts, an Animal Crossing - Sim City-esque game woukd scratch that itch I've had recentley for construction! :D (I do have ideas, they just emerge sparingly...) - Ummm, what else...? Oooo, continuing my AC theme, a new game for the home console. SO many ideas for Gamepad use! Doubtful, but always hope! Other than that, another Star Fox/F-Zero announcement would be awesome! Oh, and you reminded me.... Pikmin 3! Damn, so many games!

I'm sure we're likely to hear about Nintendo TVii too, as it's been sat there doing sweet F-A since launch. :(

  15. Spyrolad Friday 17th May 2013 at 08:10

If they announce F-Zero U this soon after the last Nintendo Direct I will explode.

  16. DragonEleven Friday 17th May 2013 at 08:16

Although I agree with most of the points, I doubt they'd talk about a multi-platform Disney title... and I'm not too sure if we'll get any new game announcements, just the dates for ones we know about.
They could also advertise the Nintendo Unleashed tour, announcing more dates, as well as more details about the WiiU games they'll be showing (which includes Game and Wario).

  17. TheSlenderman Friday 17th May 2013 at 09:00

kinda hoping they will announce miiverse for 3ds, however that's pretty unlikely. :(

With the Pikmin 3 release dates currently as 13th July (Japan) and 4th August (US), let's hope our release date isn't too far off and NOT in September, at the end of the Summer holidays. (It's just I don't always seem to understand why EU always gets games last :/)
Though I'm quite relieved that Pokemon X and Y are scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release, rather than the Japan release date being 6 months before it comes here...let's just hope then that the 3D Mario and Mario Kart game as well as Super Smash Bros. (or any other games from today's Nintendo Direct) gets the same release date treatment as X and Y.

  19. NP Chilla Friday 17th May 2013 at 14:54

We got three out of the eight things suggested in this list (Pikmin 3 release date, Wonderful 101 release date and Game & Wario footage).
They're saving all the really juicy stuff for E3, we all know it. Shame it couldn't be more than 20 minutes though.
