The 10 biggest stories of E3 2013

Our take on the biggest headlines of the past week

The booths have been packed up and the games journalists have headed home, but we're still digesting the glut of announcements and news from E3 2013. It was a good year to be a Nintendo fan, with a packed show bringing us lots of exciting games for the rest of 2013 and beyond. Distilled for your pleasure from our E3 coverage, here's ten of the most exciting news stories from this past week.

10. Not a Link to the Past 2 but a Link Between Worlds

We already knew that a sequel to A Link To The Past was coming but this E3 we found out that the new 3DS Legend of Zelda title will be called A Link Between Worlds. We already knew that the Dark World would be returning, but this new title underlines its importance and hints at a possibly very large role in the story. It was also good to see more gameplay and Link using his become-a-drawing 'Merge' mode to access different areas.

Wind Waker HD is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. My favourite Zelda games are the toon link ones on DS, but never played Wind Waker. CAN'T WAIT!

I'm well happy with the new Donkey Kong game, after the 3D port I was a bit worried it might've been a standalone game from Retro but I'm glad they're revisiting it! I can't wait to play it! Mario Kart 8 looks LUSH in HD. I'm a bit disappointed in Mario 3D World. I love that Peach is playable again, finally, and can't wait to see her in that cat-suit - MEE-OW  but I was hoping for a more HD Mario game rather than a NSMB game but in 3D (which, let's face it, is what it is).

I was really pleasantly surprised with Mario Kart 8, as while I enjoy the series I didn't feel as excited for as I did for finally seeing the new Smash Bros. and 3D Mario game, but the trailer was fantastic!

Pikmin 3 was less exciting at E3 as it is a game that we all knew a fair bit about anyway, but it looks as great as ever and I am highly anticipating its release!

Wind Waker HD stands out too, as when I first saw those screenshots I wasn't sure if it actually looked better than the beautiful original. I thought the character models didn't look like the sharp cel-shaded style that the original had. But after seeing the trailer at E3 I can rest easy, the game looks remarkable in motion. I am very much looking forward to playing Wind Waker again.

When I was watching the Pikmin 3 trailer and got to the bingo battle part I literally shouted out: HOLY MOLLY IT'S OLIMAR! :o

Wind waker HD looks fantastic and cant wait for that game. But new donkey Kong was such a big disappointment I wish retro where making something more innovative than more donkey Kong.
