FIFA 14 3DS features no new gameplay or modes and it costs £39.99

Well, at least EA are honest!

FIFA 14 is coming to 3DS this week but, according to the latest Nintendo press release, it features no new gameplay features or modes. What's more, it costs £39.99.

That's right, it seems you're paying nearly £40 for FIFA 13 with updated squads and kits. Here's the official description for FIFA 14 on 3DS:

FIFA 14 Legacy Edition delivers unmatched authenticity that reflects the current football season with updated kits and rosters but no updates to gameplay or game modes. It features 30 officially licensed leagues, 50 real-world tournaments, and 500 authentic clubs. Play traditional matches or free your game in epic 5-v-5 street matches with 3D effects. Play as a real-world superstar or re-create yourself. Optional touch screen controls deliver pin-point shooting and passing at your finger-tips.

According to the Amazon description, FIFA 14 on Wii will also be the same as FIFA 13 but with updated kits and squads. You may remember that FIFA 13 Wii caused controversy for being pretty much the same game as FIFA 12. This time, EA hasn't hidden its intentions by announcing that the is basically the same.

EA isn't releasing FIFA 14 on Wii U. Why bother releasing it on 3DS if that's how little effort is being put in?

Also, it's a squad not a roster...

Its down right disgusting that they think they can just re release the same game over and over with no changes what so ever. The sad thing is people will buy it.

Apparently the same thing is happening for PS Vita so it comes as no surprise to me.

They do not care unless you own a PS3 or an Xbox where there main target is, the other versions don't validate the time and effort in there eyes. its sad really, but I have learnt to put up with nonsense being a fan of Nintendo and PC, so I do not bother supporting rubbish like this.

ive got the two identical games on psvita fifa football and fifa 13, it was shocking when i played it and it was exactly the same apart from a squad update and new kits, no one new mode

The sheer bitterness in this article, Tom.

    Totally justified though.

So did 13 have online multiplayer? I seem to recall it didn't. My reason for asking is because that is the foolish omission that puts me off in the first place. All they needed was even a token addition, nothing substantial so it didn't appear quite as bad as it does. They surely can't be shocked that people didn't rush out and get the first FIFA on the handheld when it lacks such an important facet of the game.

Sadly this will outsell the fresh stuff in the videogame market, and be responsible for a videogame company going bust. :(

It's the exact same thing on other consoles as well minus a few minor improvements (and the updated squads) and having played the demo it is actually a lot slower. But people will lap it up and not bat an eyelid.

Meh, nothing new, just a shame for those who like football and own a WiiU I feel - a port of the PS3/Xbox game can't be overly hard.

The sad thing is a huge nintendo and fifa (well football) fan i only buy nintendo consoles as can't warrant having two but would jump for joy if they bought this out on wii u with updates only. For me this has been the only disapointment on the wii u so far.

Not even that now. I believe that ps4 and xbox1 are the only ones to get the new tech behind it. Seems likely they are getting lazy with other versions though...

Surely this should be nothing more than a Ł10 DLC set for Fifa 13 at the most. Atleast then its not being sold under the pretense of a new game to unwitting parents.

  22. Jammy01 Monday 23rd Sep 2013 at 23:25

No... We'll not help you increase the Wii U user base. That 3DS user base though? We'll help ourselves to some of that!

the wii has never had a good fifa game....which is a shame as I remember the manager mode on fifa 07 for gamecube being absolutely perfect- to the extent I played at least 5 seasons in a row with Cheltenham town, working my way up the leagues. but everything since has been but an afterthought. a symptom of 90% of the wii's library- developer's not giving the console the time of day it deserves. comes to something when to this day two of my favourite games on the system are gamecube ports (resi 4 and Metroid prime to be specific)

Isn't this true of all yearly fifa and pro evo releases?
They just tweak it a bit to make it feel new, update the player info and charge you another Ł40.
The games themselves haven't really improved for the last 5 years or so.

How come Van Persie was playing for Arsenal, and Gerviniho

Because the video is of FIFA 13, not 14.
