New Smash Bros. Wii U screenshots reintroduce the Home-run Bat

Batter, batter, batter

Among the many and varied weapons of Smash Bros., the Home-run Bat's always had a sort of quiet menace - after all, you wouldn't find some unscrupulous loan shark had sent his goons to your house armed with brightly-coloured ray guns and a Pokeball. Which makes the item's newest incarnation all the more terrifying.

As Sakurai puts it: "The Home-run Bat in this game is black! And it's so powerful that your eyes might bug out!!" And, like the aforementioned loan shark, he even went on to explain just what would happen to you if you do get hit: "And here's a look at a home run exiting the arena."

Chilling.

Well, Link appears to be re-introducing it to DK. And DK looks surprised...

What with the capsule and ray gun before it, it looks like they're really going to town with giving the staple items a new lick of paint, and the Homerun Bat looks positively blingin'.

I like to think that the major re-design is to further distinguish it from Ness' Smash Attack. And on the Ness front, I think I've finally figured it out. I think he'll be an unlockable character again, and Sakurai will wait until after the game is released to make his character profile on the Smash Bros website... Like what he did with Brawl. But it's worth pointing out that if this is the case then that means that this will be the first game in the series that Luigi is available from the start.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed yet - The platforms are designed like Lanayru Mines in Skyward Sword, which is an awesome little detail. Sakurai isn't missing anything is he? He's thought about it all.

A couple of us have actually already mentioned this in a previous article (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=101073&p=3940426#p3940426) so it's not just you. It's really cool though.
