Punch-Out!! Release Date Confirmed

Plus Super Punch-Out!! ready for download tomorrow

Nintendo has confirmed the exact release date for Punch-Out!! Earlier in the week we were told that it would be released in May but now Nintendo has finalised the date as 22 May.

That's not all! Nintendo has also announced that Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES will be available for download tomorrow via the Wii's Virtual Console. So if you've never played Punch-Out!! before and want to know what the fuss is all about, you can download the SNES game on Friday.

As for the Wii version, it will feature all of the well-known characters from Glass Joe to Von Kaiser, King Hippo and, of course, Little Mac.

Punch-Out!! revives the story of Little Mac as you follow his journey from up-and-coming boxer in the Bronx, NY to become the boxing World champion. The game reunites the mean men of the World Video Boxing Association, who Little Mac must challenge and defeat one-by-one.

The aim is to spot weaknesses in your opponent's armoury - such as changes in their body position - and exploit them with your best upper cuts, hooks and jabs. However, the introduction of the motion sensing controls of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk will, according to Nintendo, give you a more instinctive boxing experience as you weave, bob and duck during bouts.

The Wii Remote and Nunchuk mimic the movements of the left and right hands but there is also a classic control system, where you turn the Remote on its side to simulate the NES controller.

So look out for Punch-Out!! on 22 May and you can get yourself in the mood for the new Wii game by downloading Super Punch-Out!! tomorrow.

Good to hear. It's like what Nintendo did with Metroid in America, released SM in the run up to MP3. This should boil anticipation for the new Punch-Out game.

I'm still considering whether to get it though. I need more Stars.

That's one of ONM's wishlist games for virtual console now available. Fingers crossed for Super Mario Kart and The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask

It's good how Nintendo are sticking to their regime of revealing games closer to release dates to cease excessive hype and get better sales.

Punch Out was revealed 7 months ago. Brawl has 2 years. Seems to make a difference. Also the lack of information is a big deal too.

WOW! SO SOON! I really can't afford all these games like Madworld, The Conduit, GTA DS and now Punch-Out!!

I would like to see more info now on the new game as there are a lot of questions. Why doesn't it use or wait fro MotionPlus? Is it multiplayer? How big is this new version? The questions continue.

I've been waiting for Super Punch-Out!! to come to VC as I have never played it and this version looks alot better than the NES one which didn't appeal to me because the NES is so dated. Be downloading it, Earthworm Jim and Sin and Punishment when I get some Wii points (or should I say Nintendo Points).
