Giratina Pokémon DS Enters Stars Catalogue

How many stars have you got? You'll need plenty!

A special Pokémon DS Lite has been made available through Nintendo's Star Catalogue but you'll need a lot of points to get hold of one. The Giratina DS Lite will cost 30,000 stars so you'll need to have bought a lot of games to get one!

The special edition DS Lite is glossy white, with a silver Giratina Origin Forme on the front. It is a Japanese-version Nintendo DS Lite but it does come supplied with a European charger, European-language manual and approval for European use.

Giratina is one of the legendary Pokémon that originally appeared in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. This Pokémon appears in its new 'Origin Forme' in Pokémon Platinum.

To get stars, you need to register for Club Nintendo online. You'll find a PIN on a Club Nintendo registration card that's inside the packaging for Nintendo hardware and games. As soon as you register you'll get 1250 stars and you can add to this with every purchase. Your stars can then be swapped for goodies in the catalogue such as the Pokémon DS or Wii Points.

How many stars do you have? Would you spend 30,000 on this special DS Lite?

WHAT?! How the heck am I going to afford that?

My star balance is 6'650 (11'825 before I bought the Mario Rack nearly 2 years ago), so I'm going to have to buy like, about 100 games.

With that many stars, my rough calculation is.......120 games to purchase. That is insane  .

Still, 30'000 stars seems like its worth a DS, but at the same time, thats double that Zelda statue.

Also since the stars might expire soon, I don't think I'll bother yet witrh the Zelda statue (unless the games I get are worth alot of points) and I don't think I'll buy loads of games just for a DS because where am I going to put all of those Wii games in their plastic boxes? :?

Funnily enough, I just purchased it now with some of the 38,750 stars I had!

What should I spend the last lot of stars on?

with the games you would need to buy, 120 say, at Ł25 each, you could buy 30 DS Lites normally and 20 DSi, there is no point, it just looks cool, nothing more

Not just any 120 DS games, either. They have to be Nintendo games that come with Star points. That's not going to happen for me, especially since I squandered lots of points on the Pokemon drawstring bag and other stuff last year.

I'd get one, but I have the DSi, and not enough points, so...yeah.

Good idea though. Nice one, Ninty.

What on earth have you bought in total to reach that many? Did they allow us to keep the old balances from the old Nintendo site? I can't remember..

Anyway, I asked Nintendo to outline all their current vaild games/systems so I can see how to achieve such a total. I have 6350 stars

Did they allow us to keep the old balances from the old Nintendo site? I can't remember..

I believe they did, in the old one, I had say, 9'000 stars and in the new one that got released, I still had the same amount, so yeah.
Also the games registered remain the same

  14. txywiki Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 14:44

why cant you buy it with money???????
getting points is sooooooo hard! 3 quaters of wii/ds games dont have them

  15. Poke-J Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 16:55

Sorry but how the fu** is that possible when your star points can expire after a while.

  16. jaco_p Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 17:40

bought the zelda statue last year so no chance. What's made it increasingly difficult is that nintnedo don't give out as many points as they used to - with some games only being worth 100 pts depending on how much they cost. No vip points for VC or wiiware either....

  17. Ben707 Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 18:06

I bought the Mario rack and Wii Points, I had 12,000 but alas I won't be able to afford it. I haven't bought a Wii game since Christmas.

And can some answer me, how big is the Link Statue?

  18. deku-shrub Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 19:00

it would be better if it was black and yellow :/

  19. master dingley Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 20:03

I had my account deleted when the new site came randoml, losing a good 10,500 odd stars. I really wanted that Link statue too :(

Still, I've gained about another 10,000 on my new account, but I went and bought a ton of nintendo points instead as I really wanted Picopict :D

  20. adamwalker222 Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 20:10

How many stars do you usually get per game?

I've never made an account, but that DS would be cool if it had black wings coming of it lol.

  21. catscan93 Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 20:34

    LOL HELLZ NO

so id need 30 wiis or to have bought 120 first party nintendo games (HAVE THEIR EVER BEEN THAT MANY?!?!) and not used any of the codes

    Ridiculous.

no-one will buy this nintendo, its probably available on the internet, and Id much rather get a gold zelda statue for half the points

even though everything is overpriced and most of it is pointless in the stars catalogue

  22. Wiintendo Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 20:43

How many stars do you usually get per game?

I always get like 250 stars per Wii game (Published by Nintendo usually). It may vary depending on the price, so I'm not sure, but it could be like 200 stars for a DS game or a budget title.

  23. Heroofhyrule Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 20:58

Sorry but how the fu** is that possible when your star points can expire after a while.

Don't know how long they take to expire. Had my points on since Febuary i think, and they still havn't expired.

  24. A-Z2996 Wednesday 27th May 2009 at 21:26

lool spent all my money on dsi points but rly wat is the point? y not a dsi giratina thing? the black dsi with gold and red? i mean ninty i know u try n squeeze ALL the sales u can but still thats just a cheap shot

LOOL and the sad thing is i want 1 !!!!! but i have a dsi so

  25. zealvurte Thursday 28th May 2009 at 00:34

Would love one, would even consider buying one. But there's no possible way i could earn that many points.

I don't have a backcatalog from the old site like some of you, and most of what i have registered in the past has expired. Earliest thing on my list that still counts is my original DS.

This does seem to be a stupid offer considering the DSi and how many things you'd have to buy to get that many points. I understand that it's just the japanese one, so they're stuck with the DS Lite, but that to me suggests they should have been alot cheaper or at some sort of event as prizes instead.

Ironically if you bought the DS with money, you'll need to register loads of them to get the star points that were worth the thing!

It isn't hard to have that many stars. Hell, I have had over 45,000 over the years since the GameCube and GBA started with them all them years ago.

And I would get that DS if I had the Stars but I am down to 15,500 after getting that gold Zelda statue when they first went in there.

  29. aceowen Thursday 28th May 2009 at 08:36

i cannot wait to see how much these will sell for on ebay, but someone is bound to make up the shell so you can just switch the plastic. they did that with the gold zelda one.

  30. TecnicolourM Thursday 28th May 2009 at 09:26

I only have about 100 stars, as I convert them in to Nintendo Points pretty much straight away. If I had 30,000 stars, though, I probably would get the Link stature instead, 'cos I think the DSi is SO much better, and I already have a funky crimson/black lite.

  31. lrwr14 Thursday 28th May 2009 at 09:54

only need 29,990 more points. i spent some points buying a 300 wii points and a 100 wii points card so i could buy dr mario on dsi. i would prefer to save up and get the link statue. looks cooler.

  32. nintendood Thursday 28th May 2009 at 11:14

I would probably have almost that many if they didn't just randomly expire one day without me realising...it's not fair that they expire, I think nintendo is just trying to cut back on how much they give away.

  33. King-X Thursday 28th May 2009 at 16:20

Yes it's quite possible but in this case I'm choosing to call the bluff anyway.

    (Nice item by the way.)

  34. tehb0ll0x Friday 29th May 2009 at 16:47

This reminds me: I ordered a Frisbee from the Stars Catalogue a while ago.

It still hasn't turned up... :?

  35. sciqueen Friday 29th May 2009 at 17:15

30,000 Stars for a DS just because it has a Z-list Pokemon on the front? No way.

  36. Ezlo Minish Saturday 30th May 2009 at 11:41

    30,000 is lots. :?

And why make it a DS Lite when the DSi has just come out? I know that would cost way more, but still...
