Satoru Iwata has told investors that he doesn't expect Nintendo to release a new console in the near future.
When asked whether Nintendo will launch a new console in 2011, Nintendo's President argued that there is still room for further expansion with Wii and DS.
"Among the 295.6 million active users, 209.5 million people are playing with our products," said Iwata at the investors Q&A. "To tell you the truth, we at Nintendo had set 200 million as an internal milestone, and we already surpassed it this spring!

"In addition, among 149.5 million of potential users - another room of expansion - there are 86.1 million people who have never tried Wii or DS yet. So numerically there is still a possibility to even double the current user population of Wii and DS.
"Thus we do not believe at all that the expansion has come to an end nor do we need a new console any time soon. So we have not set specific years for the lifespan of current game systems."
However Iwata has admitted that Nintendo are looking into new hardware. "Of course our employees are researching hardware and those in charge of hardware are already working on developing it. When our internal ideas and trend in the world match up, and when it's clear that we would be able to manufacture an abundant amount at an affordable price, we will be able to publicly speak about next hardware. At this time, we do not think that is in the near future."

i'd like something where instead of pointing at the channel you want, you control a mii and get to walk around in this house and each room represents a different channel. though i suppose they could update the wii and do that.
I think making a new console now is a bad idea because developers understand now how to use the wii-mote probably and making a new console with a different controller would mean they'll have to start over again. They should just improve the Wii until its really needed to make a new console. They just need to improve the Wii's graphics and make it easier to go online without having to right a friend code down for every game. Why don't they make it simple where u just add a person's wii number and it automatically sends them an invite for the game u added them on. Also i know it's out in Japan but watching tv shows & films from the Wii would be great. They just gotta make it for the rest of the world now. Nintendo seems to care more about it's japanese players than the rest of the world.
