Junction Point boss Warren Spector has told ONM that working on Wii exclusive Epic Mickey has allowed him to focus on nailing the gameplay, rather than concentrating on the technical and graphical side of game development.
Speaking in a huge in-depth Epic Mickey interview due to be published in our landmark 50th issue, he said:
"I think a lot of people missed the boat with Wii. I think a lot of people are enamoured with going 'ooooh look shaders'. They like the idea of doing in real time what Pixar does with pre-rendered CGI."
"I guess it's kind of natural that everyone always goes for the flashiest, glitziest, biggest hard drive sort of thing. But for me, I don't know - I just look at Mario and Zelda and go to my friends: 'where are the best games?' Being able to focus on gameplay over flashy graphics is kinda nice - almost like the good old days of development. I mean that in an entirely positive way."
