The Best Enemies Ever!

YOUR top ten nastiest bad guys in Nintendo history...
Where would Mario be without Bowser? Probably enjoying a nice cake in Peach's Castle or perhaps sunning himself on Isle Delfino. The plumber may wish for a simple life but where would the fun be in that? We need Bowser to kidnap Peach or Ganon to lord it over Hyrule in order to get our kicks. We're a selfish lot, us gamers. Of course it's not all about Bowser and Ganon. There have been plenty of memorable villains in the history of Nintendo and we recently asked you to pick your favourites. So here it is. Your best Nintendo enemies:

10. Albert Wesker
Luring your former colleagues into a mansion overrun by zombies is bad enough but this double crossing power hungry fiend went even further when he unleashed the Tyrant upon them in the original Resident Evil. He returns with superhuman powers in Resident Evil Code: Veronica and you can even play as him in Umbrella Chronicles.

You say: "He's cold hearted. In fact, he has no heart - he's a hollow mutant person who is just plain evil and kick-ass cool." - Ploiper

8= King K Rool
You wouldn't have thought that someone who steals Donkey Kong's bananas would deserve a place above Wesker. After all our Donkey Kong is no angel himself - look what he did to poor Pauline! Yet K Rool is so nasty that he even punishes his followers when they fail him. He's like the Darth Vader of the Donkey Kong series only uglier!

You say: "Giant crocodile responsible for kidnappings, deaths, and misery to the Kongs." - Mariofan64

8= Mother Brain
Do enemies come more intimidating than a giant brain with one eye? Okay, how about if the brain has spikes on its back and can fire flame-throwers, bombs, rockets and sonic screams. Even worse, when Samus defeats the thing, the danger isn't over as Mother Brain's fortress planet self destructs leading to a mad dash.

You say: "When I first saw her stand up and scream I was like "holy fudgepops!" Then after annoying her, she pins you to the wall with that big death ray thing, and then the most awesome thing ever happens in the history of any Nintendo end bad guy/gal. Ever." - Mandlecreed

7. Dr Robotnik
Ten years ago Dr Robotnik would never have made this list. Yet after making his Nintendo debut in Sonic Advance, this pot-bellied genius with the second most famous moustache in gaming history makes your top ten. Like many villains he wants to rule the world but kidnapping forest animals and turning them into robots is perhaps worse than anything Bowser has done.

You say: "The idea of him turning cute little bunnies and birds (I had two bunnies at the time) was rather scary for a small child. It has left an impression on me ever since. Classic bad guy." - Pappi

6. Bowser Jr
Bowser Jr is a little git isn't he? While saving Peach from the clutches of Bowser seems to have taken over from plumbing as Mario's day job, Bowser Jr won't even let him have a holiday. He first showed up in Mario Sunshine using his magic paintbrush to assume the form of Shadow Mario. For the rest of the game you give chase. He's also Boswer's favourite kid.

You say: "I know he`s only been in a few games but I`ve found a love for this little fella. I just feel sorry for him having to have such an annoying dad like Bowser" - Hyp3r Echo

5. Zant
King of the Twilight. Or the most evil character in the Zelda universe besides Ganondorf. He's only appeared in one Zelda game but that was enough to cement his position as one of the nastiest villains in Nintendo history. He's just so dark and when given the ability to take whatever he wants by a mysterious god-like creature, he decides to cover Hyrule in darkness.

You say: "His chameleon helmet was incredible and the quiet screech that's heard when he enters the room is really creepy." - Wyld_stallyon

4. Goomba
Compared to Zant, Goomba is a pussycat. Well, he's a mushroom actually. A mushroom with feet. Although he looks a bit like a chestnut mushroom with eyes, he is as dangerous as a death cap. Thank the lord for 1Up mushrooms because these enemies only have to waddle into Mario to knock him down to size. Incidentally, Goomba is Shigeru Miyamoto's second favourite character.

You say: "Fantastic design. The fact they've prevailed as the base enemy in such a classic series for so long without undergoing any changes just shows how EVIL they must be... Perhaps." - Turpin

3. Ridley
While Mother Brain is nasty looking, Ridley easily tops it in the evil stakes by murdering Samus Aran's parents when he led the Space Pirate attack on our heroine's home colony of K-2L. The fact that he's massive and looks like a cross between a pterodactyl and a dragon makes him the most fearsome enemy in the Metroid series.

You say: "Even though Dark Samus seems to be seen as the main foe of Samus I feel that this old dragon needed to be loved more. One of the most awesome designs for a enemy, he never fails to bring a smile when he appears." - BADGERGAMER

2. Ganon
IN ONM's Zelda special edition magazine we said Ganon was the greatest Nintendo villain ever but although you haven't placed him at number one, we can all agree that he is a nasty piece of work. Not content with just kidnapping a princess, the King of Darkness also wants to turn the land into darkness. He never gives up either, coming back again and again after each failure.

You say: "Even though Link heroically beats him every time, the darkness of his evil plans make him the definitive bad-guy." - Sheikah-link

1. Bowser
In the end there were only two points in it but Bowser is your favourite Nintendo villain of all time. We love the way he comes up with new cunning ways to kidnap old Peach culminating in his master plan to rip Peach's castle from its foundations in Super Mario Galaxy. He's a hard one to work out though as he has teamed up with the plumber in various RPG games as the pair use their force to defeat a greater evil. According to you there is no greater evil - the King of the Koopas is the king of the villains.

You say: "It's funny how he constantly tries to take over the world...... and constantly fails. He can be funny at times such as when he accidentally tells Mario his evil plan or when he's really confident right before Mario defeats him!!" - WaterMaster230
