Yesterday evening we gathered the entire ONM team and some members of the CVG gang around our office Wii to see if the eight-player mode in Wheelspin worked. Five minutes later, only Chris, Roland and I were still playing. As Chris said in his review the rest had simply given up or slammed their pads down in frustration.
Wheelspin is an astoundingly bad game, and fairly quickly pretty much everyone else in our office gathered around to have a good laugh at it. We sit near the CVG and OXM teams, and it's something of an acid test if a crowd forms around a new game; only truly brilliant or truly awful games inspire an office-halting gang of onlookers.
A couple of other recent examples were heavily-hyped PS3 title Heavy Rain and Xbox 360 travesty Divinity II. While of course it's early days for Heavy Rain, both the ONM and OXM teams couldn't resist jeering as CVG wandered tediously around some bloke's flat for 20 minutes as the main character had a shave and went to the toilet. Maybe it gets better later on.
Shoddy German RPG Divinity II was another stinker glaring out from OXM's corner of the office recently. Amazingly generic fantasy setting, terrible dialogue, glitches all over the place - it provoked genuine hilarity from a 15-strong crowd.
But what was the last bad game you had the misfortune to play? And let's not restrict this weekend's question to just Nintendo formats - let's open it up to any game you've ever played. We gave Wheelspin a right kicking today, but what do you think is the worst game ever, and what score would you give it?
