Final Fantasy devs won't abandon hardcore gamers

'Challenging game play must never be sacrificed'
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is being touted as the FF game for people who have struggled to get into traditional RPGs but its director has told Official Nintendo Magazine that his new game isn't necessarily for casual audiences.

"Challenging gameplay should never be sacrificed for the sake of a wider audience," said Square-Enix's Toshiyuki Itahana. "That's an easy way of attracting new gamers, but that way you might upset long time fans."

Having worked on Final Fantasy IX and the original Crystal Chronicles game, Itahana knows a thing or two about making games that appeal to hardcore RPG fans but his new game takes the series in a new direction by combining the traditional storytelling of Final Fantasy with action-packed gameplay.
