Have you even known a silhouette to cause so much debate? Ever since the Japanese TV show Pokémon Sunday revealed the silhouette of a mystery Pokémon, fans around the globe have been discussing the identity of this monster. All will be revealed on 21 February but internet forums are already speculating. Here some of the most popular suggestions.
1. Lucario Evolution Why? Itself an evolution of Riolu, Lucario first appeared in Diamond/Pearl and many fans see a similarity between this new Pokémon and our Jackal-like Pokémon. Lucario has certainly grown some more fur if this new Pokémon is indeed an evolution. Its nose does look a bit similar and it has a slim body like Lucario's
Why not? One of Lucario's stand out features are the spikes on its forearms. Unless they've been covered by fur, it's difficult to see where they've gone. Also, the new Pokémon doesn't appear to have a tail (it looks more like a ponytail) and doesn't have pointy ears. Some people also point out that Lucario is already powerful enough and doesn't need an evolution.
2. Weavile Evolution Why? Although not as popular as the Lucario theory, some believe that the new Pokémon looks a bit like an evolution of Weavile. You'd have to study the feet and hands of this Pokémon to see a similarity between Weavile and the silhouette, although the new Pokémon has more fur.
Why not? Sneasel, who Weavile evolved from, had three strands to his tail, Weavile had two whilst this one has none unless you count that ponytail. Also Weavile had his big red crown and collar. Where's that gone?
3. Ninetails Evolution Why? Well, there is a bit more to this suggestion other than the fact that this new Pokémon appears to be very furry like Ninetails. You see, as one poster on the Pokébeach forum pointed out, Ninetails are able to create illusions. It has been suggested that this new Pokémon has something to do with the new movie - The Rule Of Illusion: Z - and if so you can see the link with Ninetails.
Why not? If this is a Ninetails evolution, it's malted an awful lot. After all, the thing does have nine tails after all and this new Pokémon appears to have a ponytail. Unless its tails have all been tied together, of course!
4. Mightyena Evolution Why? Lucario aside, Mightyena is the name that has popped up the most when it comes to evolutions. After all, Mightyena is in The Rule Of Illusion Z and he's a wolf and lots of people have suggested that the new Pokémon is a werewolf. The claws also look very similar.
Why not? Well, anyone who knows their werewolves will tell you, they are actually humans with the ability to shapeshift into an anthropomorphic wolf-like creature. They are not wolves who suddenly get up and walk around on two legs. So, if it is a werewolf-like creature, it would be against the rules for it to evolve from a wolf. Having said that, Pokémon doesn't necessarily play by the rules.
5. An All-New Pokémon Why? This Pokémon could be the first in the fifth generation of Pokémon games. We've already been told that a new Pokémon game is on the way this year and it will feature brand new Pokémon. Could this be the first one to be revealed? The latest image of the silhouette on the CoroCoro website also adds weight to this argument. The silhouette is in the middle with all the previous Pokémon games surrounding it. This could be the mascot for the new generation. UPDATE: A scan has appeared of the new Pokémon that if legitimate, would confirm that it is a new Pokémon.
Why not? Well, to be honest, we don't have a reason why it wouldn't be a new Pokemon. Every generation has its own mascot and for all we know, this new Pokémon may have nothing to do with the new movie. As Pokébeach points out, Pokémon Sunday said they were going to reveal Pokémon Z on 21 February and later confirmed that the identity of the silhouette would be revealed also. Could these be two new Pokémon. Either way, all Pokémon fans are looking forward to 21 February when the identity of the new Pokémon will be officially revealed.
