DS celebrates its fifth anniversary this week and we're celebrating by taking a look back at your 50 best games released for Nintendo's hit handheld so far. We asked you to vote for your favourite DS games on the forum and we've compiled the results. The countdown begins today and continues until Saturday when we'll reveal your favourite DS game of all time.
WarioWare Touched
50. WarioWare: Touched Nintendo, 2006 We say: Yes, it's another 200 mini-games, but thanks to the touch-screen controls it feels as fresh as ever. It's ludicrous but loads of fun at the same time.
You say: A great little game with loads of mini games and loads of different themes. The only problem with it is that it has a very short lifespan. I bought it and completed the story mode the same day - TIMMSY7
Mario Slam Basketball
49. Mario Slam Basketball Square Enix, 2007 We say: Mario Slam Basketball is a fun Mario sports title and one of the best looking games on the DS. Despite a few control issues, this is still worth a look for anyone who fancies some crazy b-ball action.
You say: More than another Mario sports game, Mario Slam Basketball demonstrated perfectly how the DS can be used to control existing genres and delivered a reasonably deep game with great graphics. - Kd King
Hotel Dusk
48. Hotel Dusk CiNG, 2007 We say: Hotel Dusk is a decent grown-up game for the DS with some neat ideas and a great plot, but the slow pace may frustrate people looking for a little more hard-boiled excitement.
You say: One of the best games on DS, if you can appreciate an absorbing story and atmosphere. - Gavin Rozee
Custom Robo Arena
47. Custom Robo Arena Noise, 2007 We say: Custom Robo Arena is an enjoyable battle game from start to finish. From the wide variety of robot parts to choose from to the excellent online options, this is a really solid package.
You say: An addictive, over-looked gem of a game with loads of action, a surprisingly engaging story, and an unlikely resemblance to Pokémon. An all-round great game to play. - wombat samurai
Sonic Rush
46. Sonic Rush Sega, 2005 We say: This is by far one of the best Sonic titles ever created and harks back to the days of the Mega Drive games when the series was at its best. A must-buy for anyone after speedy platform action.
You say: I know it doesn't have the exploration parts but Sonic seems to be a bit faster in this game (to me anyway) and I know that it's a bit stupid to like a game more because the character is faster but being fast is Sonic's thing, so this just feels a bit more like Sonic. - blublur101
Kirby Power Paintbrush
45. Kirby: Power Paintbrush HAL, 2005 We say: Kirby returned to form after the dreadful Amazing Mirror. With great use of the stylus and loads stuff to collect, this is one of Kirby's best games ever.
You say: The first truly great DS game and probably the best Kirby game ever in my opinion. It was such a joy to play and felt incredibly fresh too. - Poke-J
Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings
44. Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings Square Enix, 2008 We say: Proof if it was ever needed that Square-Enix has more strings to its bow than just RPGs. The disappointing lack of multiplayer modes aside, this is almost the perfect strategy package.
You say: My favourite single-player game of all time, across all platforms. Unrealised until this game was the potential for the DS as an RTS platform, and this sets an unbeatable standard for the genre. The gameplay flows, the graphics are fun and the storyline is immense. It took me 120 hours to fully complete - it's amazing how such a vast game could fit onto such a tiny cartridge. - Zungie
Tetris DS
43. Tetris DS Nintendo, 2006 We say: The best Tetris for at least six years. Even if you're determined to hate this because of 'infinite spin', the multiplayer will pull at your face until you're forced to smile.
You say: I only got this recently but it is a great twist on the classic game. - Sciendo
N+
42. N+ SilverBirch, 2009 We say: Offering insanely difficult platforming action, this overlooked gem is the definition of one more go. It looks basic but it's ace.
You say: The best platformer on the DS by far. It has a bite-sized formula so you can play it on the bus for five minutes and then turn it off. And it is amazingly tough - when you complete the levels, there is more to do as you can create your own! Brilliant. - MamoswineTamer
StarFox Command
41. StarFox Command Q-Games, 2007 We say: StarFox Command has its frustrations but the multiplayer helps make up for these. If you can learn to accept the series' new direction, there's a decent strategy game in here somewhere.
You say: Nintendo's finest sky-shooter game in my opinion. So many characters to play as, and a surprisingly large landscape in the missions. - epic_fish
