The closest I ever came to catching 'em all in a Pokémon game was back in the days of Pokémon Yellow, when I managed to get 150 of the 151 Pokémon. Unfortunately, I missed out on the Mew promotional events at the time so I was destined never to get the sod, leaving me with a heartbreakingly near-complete Pokédex.
After reviewing Pokémon HeartGold for ONM, I got the Pokébug again and wondered if it'd be possible to get all 493 this time. I also decided that if I'm going to do it, I'll do it legitimately. I know one person who used a cheat cartridge to finish his Pokédex then somehow decided that was a victory. That's not for me.

So, armed with my own copy of HeartGold, I've set out on my journey to catch 'em all for real this time. I'll be posting weekly update blogs for as long as it takes for me to get them all. Eventually, when I get near the end and need some special ones, I'll be calling on you lot to help me out with some (legit) trades and, naturally, thanking those who helped in this blog.
So far I've got 32 Pokémon after eight hours and 45 minutes of play. I know that's not a lot just now but that's because I'm concentrating just now on levelling up some of my main Pokémon in order to just get through the main adventure.
I did, however, take advantage of the brand new Voltorb Flip mini-game in Goldenrod City's Game Corner and used the coins I won there to buy a Dratini, which I've cunningly named Martini. I also bought an Abra and Ekans while I was there.
That's all I've got for now. On Saturday I'll be going to the Arceus event at Game on Oxford Street (I'll be there at about 1pm: if you're there come and say hello!) and later on I'll be downloading the Pikachu-coloured Pichu which is currently available. More on those in later blogs though. For now, I reckon this is a decent start.
Does anyone have any advice for catching some of the trickier Pokémon? Check out the screens I've taken of my current squad and the others in my box. Are there any I should be swapping into my main six (bearing in mind Kenya isn't mine and is part of a mission)? And who's up for some trading once I get nearer the end of my mission?
