Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Wii Music, has described his latest project as "Not quite a game and not quite an instrument."
He believes that Wii Music is perfect for those who like music but can't actually play an instrument. "Why shouldn't people who like music, but find playing instruments difficult, be able to perform music just by letting their feelings take control and simply waving the controller and pushing a few buttons to the rhythm?
"With this goal in mind we created Wii Music, which is not quite a game and not quite an instrument, I hope that as people play, they will truly understand the joy of performing and develop a greater passion for music"

We played Wii Music reecently and can report that it is enjoyable to mess around with the 60 instruments in the game and play along to 50 songs made famous by artists from John Lennon and The Police to Madonna and Kylie Minogue. You can also play classical compositions by Tchaikovsky, Strauss and Beethoven.
You can choose to play and record all the instruments yourself but it is more enjoyable to get your friends involved and form a band band, playing everything from piano, guitar and saxophone to the bagpipes, sitar, beatboxer and even a barking dog! Playing the drums with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk is fun and there is also a conducting mini-game and pitch perfect music quiz to compare player's musical ears.
One of the best parts of the game is being able to save the music you created, designing its own record sleeve and even making your own music video starring your Mii characters. For your video you can choose your own stage setting from a live club scene to classic concert hall or a on the back of a moving truck. You should have seen our version of the Police song!
Then using WiiConnect24 you can share all your recordings with friends and family who can rate it and remix it!
You can read a review of Wii Music in the next issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday 24 October.
