Reggie: Microsoft's Natal "Ironic"

NOA man unfazed by Xbox motion-tech
Nintendo is unconcerned by Microsoft's much-vaunted motion sensing technology, according to president of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime. In fact he finds it all rather ironic.

"Our first reaction is that it is ironic that, three or four years ago, the prevailing industry opinion was that prettier pictures or more horsepower were the waves of the future," Fils-Aime reckoned.

"And now it's clear from both of our competitors that physical activity in gaming is the wave of the future. It's also ironic that, for Nintendo, the future is here. The future is now."

Project Natal was revealed by Microsoft during E3. It is a camera-sensor system which picks up whole body movements, theoretically removing the need for controllers. It's old news for Reggie though.

"We have been very familiar with that technology. I have personally seen a lot of iterations of similar technology," Fils-Aime said in an interview with Kotaku.

He also confirmed Nintendo is pressing on with plans to integrate Facebook into the DSi, which will allow users to upload photos taken with the DSi camera directly to their Facebook page.

"For me to take your picture, blow up your head, blow up your nose, post it on my page, [and say] 'Ha ha ha, look what I did to Stephen,' we think that's just a lot more fun and that's the direction we'll go."
